"gghost rehab is a track performed & recorded by Arcana Red, using mainly ipad/ipod apps and a Waldorf Blofeld. "I'd like to say that I know exactly what I'm doing, but these days in the current musical climate, that's not always a good thing. I used mainly ipad/ipod apps such as: Gliss, Reactable Mobile, Rain, Runxt Life, and Sound Scope Space, along with a Waldorf Blofeld for added texture and some added chords. I also used Axon by Audio Damage for added percussion. I wanted some generative elements that I could have some control over. I also manipulated and mangled many of the sounds that I thought were either too definable to their related programs, or needed a texture that was less smooth and clean sounding for this track. There is a part that sounds like novice violin playing where the bow is digging harshly into the strings. Surprisingly, to me at least, I was able to create this sound using Sound Scope Space. Perhaps playing in a sloppy way added a touch of realism. I also wanted the track to have a sense of location/space in its sound. It's a fairly long piece of music best enjoyed alone with a bottle of wine, or just 'zoning' out. If you decide to hit play, thank you." - Arcana Red.
""ex-machina" is überLAB's follow up EP. Most of it was written in 2009 right after "überwunder", but it was only recently finished.
About the title ex-machina refers to the Latin phrase "Deus ex Machina", or "god out of the machine". This represents a plot device whereby a seemingly inextricable problem is suddenly and abruptly solved with the contrived and unexpected intervention of some new character, ability, or object.
My take on this concept was a bit more literal. "ex-machina" is a collection of songs that are by nature, "mechanical". It is a manifestation of organic warmth and analog elements expressed via a seemingly cold machine as its conduit.
Each song in this EP has a Latin title, representing a human idea: Risus (Laughter), Lacrima (Tear), Sidus (Star), Paradisus (Paradise), Somnium (Dream). I found it interesting that I could juxtapose these human ideas with a machine and come up with something new..and unique.
I took various "real" sound elements from my surroundings and transferred them into my music. Continuously shaping and refining them until these individual elements were infused with character and held meaningful positions within each song.
If überwunder was an introspective tribute to my childhood heroes, ex-machina explores the possibilities of überLAB as an evolving artist. I hope that you will enjoy this release."
"TON of analog synths as well as symbolic sound's Kyma."
