Paul Birken and The Dirty Party Snakes

On Kickstarter

"Sophomore Acid/Electronic Blues 12" limited vinyl release in full color jacket based on original painting by DJ T-1000 aka Alan Oldham.

Hello Everyone,

I've been very fortunate to meet and work with a lot of great people over the years. Many of these became an outlet for different types of electronic music I've created. Looking back, I consider most of that music catalog has fallen under the label of 'techno'.

I am also a huge fan of blues music in all its various forms and since I never learned how to play the guitar, I decided to see if I could create something using the tools I had available. Swapping the frets and strings with Midi, cv/gate, and other oscillator interactions through the various music machines I own. Much like techno, I love the diversity of styles found in blues music and I've found it interesting to try different things and directions. Some of them are stompers along the lines of the jam session I put in the video above and some are more delta-style droning riffs drowning in fuzz and distortion. The project name is a nod to a friend in Germany and all the synths and machines with their healthy tangled wires everywhere. It is how my table full of gear earned the title "Dirty Party Snakes" and exists as my trusty band.

A few years ago those initial experiments created this first vinyl release on Bluecid out of Sweden.

Here's one of those cuts from that first release. Yes, that is footage of myself

'Bluecid 001 track. Stripped down analog synths and some drum fragments. Images provided by moments of my own childhood on super8mm.'

With your participation [on Kickstarter], we can put this next vinyl release together independently and give you a chance to help continue this experiment with the next collection of 4 songs. I'm happy to also offer digital versions for those of you who prefer that. The mastering and pressing/production of the record will be done through Complete Mastering who handles many well respected labels. You can find out more about them here. http://completemastering.com/

An additional aspect of the project I find really exciting is having a proper graphic designer here in Minneapolis create the full color jacket. The art for the release is based on an original painting I own from DJ T-1000 aka Alan Oldham. I'm guessing that many of you still have those old Djax releases he did so much artwork for. If not, then please check out more information about Alan. He's really talented! http://alanoldham.com

Thank you for taking time out of your busy day to investigate this project! If you happen to know a friend who might be interested in this project, please pass a link along to them. With your help, I am hoping I don't have to write a follow up song called 'The No Funding Conundrum Blues'"
